Mary Aileen Matheis is proud to announce her candidacy for reelection to the IRVINE RANCH WATER DISTRICT BOARD. It is always exciting to run in a General Election year when all voters are focused on the National Presidential Election. It is especially exciting this year as two momentous events have occurred that ensure an historical outcome in the Election 2008. The fact that an African American has been nominated by a major political party for President of the United States and subsequent nomination of a woman for Vice President by a major political party assures that history will be made in the Election of 2008.
In seeking your support in this election, Mary Aileen wants to remind you that during the time she has been privileged to serve, history has been made in the water industry, especially at IRWD. New and innovative measures have been developed to ensure your supply of safe, reliable water. The Irvine Desalter has come on line to treat the contaminated groundwater under the former El Toro Marine Base, disposing it to outfall and additionally treating it for non-potable use. As a companion piece to that project agriculturally contaminated groundwater is being treated to potable uses by the District enhancing our local water supply.
Another major new project is the Natural Treatment System designed to capture and naturally treat urban run-off, thus protecting our oceans and our beaches from urban contamination. The District has invested in substantial upgrades to our Michelson Treatment facility to provide more and better recycled water to save our precious potable for residents. Under the direction of the Board, the District has invested in water banking to increase our supply of water into the future.
It has been her privilege to participate and encourage these advancements for the future security and quality of water for our constituents in Orange County.
Conservation, as a water resource strategy has been implemented and encouraged in our District since the early nineties with programs that reward customers for saving water and assist rate payers in improving their irrigation systems with modern water-saving upgrades.
There is still more to do to ensure stable, secure and high quality for all our rate payers. Mary Aileen wants to continue to serve you as your representative.
Mary Aileen lives in the City of Irvine with her husband Charles. She has seven adult children and seven grandchildren. She is a member of St. John Neumann Parish where she serves as a Lector and a Eucharist Minister.
