Ms. Matheis was born in Troy,
New York and completed her Juris Doctorate at Western State
University College of Law in Fullerton, California. She also
earned a Masters in Speech Communication at the State University
of New York at Buffalo, and a Bachelor of Arts in American
Studies at Russell Sage College, Troy, New York. Ms. Matheis'
law practice emphasizes real estate, wills, trusts, and business
litigation.
She is admitted to practice in the Supreme
Court of the United States and the United States Tax Court, the
California Supreme Court, the United States Court for the
Central District of California, the United States Appeals Court
for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Court for the
Central District of California.
A past member of the American Bar
Association, she is active in the Orange County Bar Association,
serving as a member of the Real Estate and Estate Planning
sections. Ms. Matheis is a past president of the Real Estate
section of the Orange County Bar, and a member of its Executive
Committee. She also serves on the arbitration and Pro Tem panels
of the Orange County Superior Court.
Ms. Matheis has served as a director of
the National Association of Realtors since 1982, and was
designated as an Honorary Director for Life of the California
Association in 1986 and as a member of the Orange County
Association of Realtors, she was recipient of the California
Distinguished Realtor of the Year Award in 1998. She has also
been honored as Realtor of the Year for the Orange County
Association of Realtors, and the Huntington Beach Fountain
Valley Association of Realtors. She is a past Chairman of the
NAR Legal Acton committee and serves as a Trustee of the CAR's
IMPAC Committee.
She is an elected public official as a
Director of the Irvine Ranch Water District and serves as Vice
President. An active member of the Association of California
Water Agencies, she serves on the Legal Acton committee and she
is Vice President of the Independent Special Districts of Orange
County and the IRWD representative on the Southern California
Water Committee.
As Chairman of Board II of the Orange
County Assessment Appeals Panel she hears both residential and
commercial tax appeals for the entire county of Orange, as well
as Personal Property tax appeals for corporations and
individuals.
She is an member of the board of the
Irvine Chapter of the American Cancer Society and has served as
Chairman or co chairman of the Daffodil Days program for the
last several years. Ms. Matheis is one of the founding members
of the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, a restored wetlands
facility within the City of Irvine. She serves on its Board as a
Vice President. She is a member of the Lincoln Club of Orange
County, the Republican Lawyers of Orange County and the
Huntington Harbor Republican Women, Federated.
In recognition of her service to the
community, she was honored by Senator Ross Johnson on March 27th
in a special ceremony in the California Senate Chambers, as the
Women of the Year for the 38th Senate District.
Ms. Matheis is married to Charles W.
Matheis, an aeronautical engineer with the Federal Aviation
Administration. They have seven grown children.
