Mary
Aileen Matheis is proud to announce her candidacy for reelection to
the Irvine Ranch Water District Board of Directors in the November
2, 2004 election. Mary Aileen, who has served as a Director since
1986, is currently Vice President of the Board.
In seeking your support, she reemphasizes her commitment to bring
to the residents of the District THE
HIGHEST QUALITY WATER AT THE LOWEST POSSIBLE PRICE.
In addition to this underlying commitment, she promises
to ensure all efforts are made to remove contaminants, reduce
nitrogen content and pathogens to protect the health of the
community. In the last few years, ocean water quality has caused
Mary Aileen and the water district to address the issue of
"urban-runoff."
During
her service the District boundaries have been extended to include
Santa Ana Heights, Newport Coast, most of the City of Lake Forest,
as well as parts of the City of Orange and parts of the City of
Tustin. As the Tustin Helicopter
Marine Base and the El Toro Airbase are formulated into new living
and commercial areas with parts and schools, as well as the
"Great Park," IRWD will expand its service area further
for the benefit of all its customers. The inclusion of these new
area will be accomplished with the same concern for new customers
as demonstrated in previous mergers, where consolidation has
brought greater efficiency to the District thus reducing water
costs to the new customers and still retaining the low rates for
existing customers.
Mary
Aileen has worked with the other Directors to enhance the quality
of life for all of the people of Orange County through the
development and preservation of the San Joaquin Wildlife
Sanctuary.
She serves as a Director of the San Joaquin Wildlife
Sanctuary, an entity organized to be the guiding force in creating
a wetlands area, adjacent to the Operations Plant. The several
duck ponds serve not only as a home to myriad Wildlife on the
Pacific Flyway, but the wetlands area is an oasis and sanctuary
for Irvine residents and all residents of Orange County.
Water
Conservation and environmental restoration are major elements that
guide IRWD policy decisions.
Through the efforts of IRWD staff, encouraged by the Board
of Directors, programs have been developed and presented to our
customers to assist them in saving water to reduce their own water
bills, and to lessen our need to import expensive water.
In
another conservation program, The Tree Hill project, at Michelson and
Riparian Way, was developed in conjunction with Shadetree
Partnership to introduce thousands of native trees and foliage into
the area for shade and water conservation.
Mary Aileen presently serves as President of Shadetree
Partnership.
Since
1982, she has practiced law in Orange County. She has concentrated
in the area of real estate law, wills, trusts and estate planning.
She is also an active member of the California Association of
Realtors (CAR) where she serves on the Legal Action Fund Trustees,
and previously served as Chairman of the National Association of
Realtors Legal Affairs Committee. In 1999, she received the
Distinguished Realtor of the Year Award by CAR and has been honored
as Realtor of the Year by her local association on three separate
occasions.
One
of her most memorable awards was to be selected by Senator Ross
Johnson as WOMAN OF THE YEAR,
for the 38th Senate District of California. The presentation was
made on March 27, 2000 in the State Senate Chamber.
Mary
Aileen's
other civic accomplishments include service on the Orange County
Assessment Appeals Board. In recognition of her service on the
Appeals Board, Mary Aileen was awarded a "Certificate of
Appreciation" from the Orange County Board of Supervisors on
April 21, 2004. Most recently she was appointed to the Board of
Governors for the Irvine Valley College Foundation. Since
1978, Mary Aileen and her husband Charles, have been residents in
the Village of Woodbridge in Irvine.
